He lives and works in Paris.

Emerging from graffiti, which he practiced in the early 2000s, he gradually developed a more personal style of painting, where the spontaneity of gesture meets traditional techniques and craftsmanship. Starting in 2007, he began working on hand-woven and hand-embroidered cotton canvases, made in collaboration with women embroiderers in Tamesloht, near Marrakech, as well as embroiderers from Pondicherry, India.

His works combine painting, ink, marker and embroidery in compositions featuring faces, organic forms and motifs bordering on abstraction. The gesture retains the energy of his early years in the street: drips, traces and accidents fully participate in the construction of the image.

A large part of his work belongs to the series La Conférence des Oiseaux (The Conference of the Birds), a reference to the 12th-century mystical poem by Persian Sufi poet Farid ud-Din Attar. This work, which tells the initiatory journey of birds in search of their sovereign, resonates with Mekhnache's exploration of introspection, transformation and inner searching.

The collective dimension also holds an essential place in his practice. Each work passes through several hands and territories: the motifs imagined by the artist are interpreted and embroidered by artisans in India and Morocco before returning to the studio. Painting and embroidery meet in this shared space, bringing contemporary creation into dialogue with ancestral gestures and the transmission of craftsmanship.

Deeply attached to manual work, Mekhnache favors a creative process free of mechanical procedures. He approaches painting as a physical and intuitive practice, in which the artist accompanies the gesture rather than seeking to control it.

Yassine Mekhnache's works can today be found in numerous public and private collections around the world.

["post-80","artist","type-artist","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
